  • Dampfzentrale Bern 47 Marzilistrasse Bern, BE, 3005 Schweiz (map)

Two extraordinary instruments feature in Bold & Just, daringly employed to realise the sonic dreams of Marc Sabat and Saad Haddad. The Tree invokes the existence of this marvellous life-form: spanning soil and atmosphere, situated between earth and clouds, adorned with the recurring transience of autumn… Sabat's music is rooted in American folk and is supported by the technical capabilities of the Lumatone, which, with its setup of colourfully glowing hexagonal keys, is able to access a scale of 81 pitches per octave of the selected palette. Haddad composes at the intersection between microtonal Italian madrigals of the 16th century and the Arab Maqam tradition. Featuring a modern realisation of Nicola Vicentino's Arciorgano, a 36-tone per octave chamber pipe organ, Haddad’s new work Wilada reignites Vicentino's centuries-old vision that the Arciorgano may serve musicians of all cultures.
