The most famous of all fairytales was an inspiration for composer, Engelbert Humperdinck. The story of siblings, Hansel and Gretel, who get lost in the forest and threaten to fall victim to a witch, became immensely popular in its operatic form. The music takes up well-known folk melodies and combines them with dazzling sonic imagery wandering between dream and reality, fear and fantasy.
